Made by Jeppe Hein, modified social benches is a rather interesting art piece in that people who interact with this art piece do not often take notice that they are indeed interacting with it.  Due to their alterations, the benches look like a combination of a dysfunctional object and a functional piece of furniture. This points out the contradiction between artwork and functional object in which some art forms a unique statement but creates a scarcely functional piece of work. The belief behind this art piece is that artworks in public spaces open up new possibilities for the viewer to lose one's timidity towards art. The project is an integral part of artist’s ongoing ‘Temporary Immersive Environment Experiments’ which is a research on audio/visual installations by using the state called immersion which is the state of consciousness where an immersant’s awareness of physical self is transformed by being surrounded in an engrossing environment; often artificial, creating a perception of presence in a non-physical world. In this project light is the major element in the experiment, used to blur and interconnect the boundaries between the two realms actual/fictional and physical/virtual. It signifies the threshold between the represented space created by the projection technology, and the physical space where the viewer stands. The surface is inhabited by strange creatures made out of lights representing  pure mathematical abstractions mixed with natural shapes . Its complex structure causes association with living creatures, space objects and architectural constructions.  Viewers can push the membrane and try to make contact with them.  There is always this fascination with interacting with an object given "life" by a human being. We love to see it interact with us, react to us and attempt to form a sort of communication with the object. This art piece brings about the question of "where is the boundary of life" when it comes to animating and stimulating objects that can react to us. Each group created an installation that places the viewer in the “epicenter of borderless creativity."   "The viewer enters into a totally immersive and unfamiliar dark space. He trues  to understand what is waiting for him, but the picture of the world is  changing with light and sound. Confronted with an unfamiliar, fast-paced changing scene, the viewer is made to feel small and insignificant in face of the scale of what is happening in front  of him. It is  as though he is  an unwanted witness of an unknown lighting  phenomena, placing  him  right in the Epicenter of an uncontrollable massive activity. Interactive Art 6: Golem X MBA

The Lyon Museum of Fine Arts asked artist Arnaud Pottier to bring sculptures, including Laurent Honore Marqueste’s Perseus Slaying Medusa, James Pradier’s Odalisque, and Barrias’ Les Premières Funérailles, to life. The artist thus used projection mapping, to turn the statues into a display.   GOLEM is a concept that uses sculpture and video mapping to create an uncanny feeling. It brings the  statues to life by lending them emotion despite their stationary features. This is done by projecting facial features onto the face of the statues which then creates the illusion of the statues becoming able to blink and express different facial emotions. Eyes of the statues become able to blink and this creates the illusion that the statues are really alive but frozen in their various poses.
